Do you speak Knit 1, Purl 1 or HDC, FPDC?
Who else lights up when they go to their local Hobby Lobby or Joanns? Let's all raise our hands haha. I know when I'm having an off day or a good day, taking a nice walk down the yarn aisles just simply brightens my spirit. There is something about looking and touching the different types of wool's and fibers.
From super fluffy to very soft cotton, the options are totally endless! But now here's the question. "Should I knit this or crochet that?" I personally am a "Hooker" myself ;) I am an advanced crocheter. Having pattern tested for some big names in the yarn business, such as, Sewrella. Yes the drapes of a garment don't come out as flowy and lightweight feeling.. which, truthfully I wish would happen more so than not.
Knowing crocheting has SO many different types of stitches, to me, makes it very enjoyable! I mean think about it, I'll name a few below...
- Double Crochet
- Half Double Crochet
- Puff Stitch
- Bobble Stitch
- Moss Stitch
- Suzette Stitch
- Waistcoat Stitch
- Granny Square
- Trinity Crochet Stitch
- Herringbone Stitch
- Alpine Stitch
I mean seriously, how much funnn!!! There is so much to learn, and for someone whose mind is always wondering, this surely keeps my mind entertained and excited :)
Another thing I love about crocheting is how forgiving it is. You mess up on a stitch, a simple frogging can take care of that no problem. So that seems to ease my anxiety just a tad.
Now I'm not saying that Knitting isn't super fun and awesome! Because it is! There are so many designers out there that have come up with some incredible patterns. Vintage to Trendy, a little something for everyone. But those darn two needles!
I keep wanting to make it my goal to learn how to knit, but my overly confident side is like "Ok Heather let's do this.. Sock yarn and the smallest needles for the job and let's start with a cardigan... even though I've never knit before in my life" HAHA! Yup, true story right there. Needless to say, I basically ended up watching Youtube videos over and over for basically every row lol.
(Photo to prove it, a gorgeous teal tweed yarn and Caspian circular knitting needles from knitpicks.com)
I was getting the hang of it and I LOVED the flowy drape of the cardigan, but I found myself missing my crochet hooks. Especially my custom Steampunk ones my mom got me for Christmas one year and also a country style pumpkin trio hook. OMG it's so cute!!
Currently at the moment I'm working on a "Give Me a Hygge" long sleeve scarf for fall. Of course I chose the teal color from the Hygge yarn collection. Photos will be coming soon once I've completed it. Feel free to follow me on my Instagram for more photos and other goodies @pumpkinsandwool.
So concluding this blog, I ask you, "What do you prefer, knitting or crocheting and why?"
This is Covid time and were all at home, so let's get together and chat about our greatest passion :)
Back to my hook and yarn! Till next time!
